24 In NYC

So we were very blessed this year to spend our 24th birthday in New York because of our lovely parents. They offered to buy us plane tickets and that was an offer we just couldn’t pass up! We had never been before so we really didn’t know what to expect… all I knew was that the subway was probably our best bet to getting around the city.

Being a foreigner to the city, I looked up the cheapest hotels possible and they were all in New Jersey. In my head I was thinking… “Well I’m sure there’s a bus or train we can take to get to New York since they’re literally neighbors.” And we found out that there was a bus stop right in front of our hotel, but I didn’t realize that it would take over an hour for that bus ride .-. So we literally had to look up bus times and plan accordingly on when to leave and where to go. When you’re so use to just jumping in your car and going, it was quite the adjustment.

When we finally made it to New York, we bought the week subway pass for $33. It’s waaaaaay cheaper then having to uber or lyft your way around the city because most of the time the traffic was at a standstill or barely moving at all. And you know those uber/lyft rides add up!

At first I thought the subway was going to be packed and very hectic, but it was very easy to get around (with the help of Maps) and we got to each location in a timely manner. But figuring out which train to take was probably the most difficult part. We ended up going on the wrong side at one point, and it was headed the opposite way from where we wanted to go, but we didn’t realize that it was an 18 minute wait until you could swipe your metrocard again. Oops.

Meet Andre! We’ve been friends for about….. 7 or 8 years now. We met in high school and he definitely wasn’t this big back then lol he really wasn’t even this big probably last month tbh. He be up in the gym just working on his fitness…we’re his witness.

Luckily we had Andre with us because he has been to NY a couple of times, so he was familiar with getting around. Me and Nelle would have been lost puppy dogs without him lol SO SHOUT OUT TO YOU!

I might have worn tennis shoes, but my feet were KILLING ME by the end of the night D; As you can see, Nelle wore boots and that was probably the worst mistake of her life lol but we both didn’t realize how much walking we were going to do until it was too late. Andre tried warning us, but look at us not listening.

We spent most of our trip in the Soho/Manhattan area because there was so much to do and see. Time passes by so fast when you’re constantly on the move trying to do everything in one day. Times Square was definitely at the top of my list to see because of the many lights and buildings. People make it look so nice in pictures, so I wanted to see it for myself. It can get overwhelming because there’s everything from food, shops, broadway shows, people, street performances and so much more!

I still have one more post from this trip… this is just a teaser 😉
